Family-owned & Operated Siewert Cabinet is Seeking an Experienced Lead Engineer.

Located in Minneapolis, our 50+ year custom casework & architectural millwork shop is looking to add an experienced lead engineer to our team. This position will be responsible for developing timely and accurate shop drawings for custom commercial architectural millwork projects. Our Lead Engineers have constant communication with Project Management and Shop Employees. Shop drawings are determined by using the estimator’s take-off, architectural drawings, specifications, Siewert standards and job specific requirements. Lead Engineer utilizes a variety of computer software applications to develop shop drawings for approval.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Directly supervises subordinate employees in engineering; carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws
  • Participate in Hand-off meetings with the Estimator and Project Manager
  • Prioritize, organize and direct the work of subordinate engineers to specific customer projects
  • Obtain and assemble data to complete drawings for architectural designs, visit job sites to compile measurements as necessary with Project Managers
  • Creates shop drawings from architectural drawings and specifications, designer sketches, or conceptual ideas
  • Layout and plan technical drawings using AutoCAD software
  • Directs shop drawing corrections and changes; personally adjusts shop drawings as required
  • Create and maintain drawing log and drawing list
  • Determine procedures and instructions to be followed, according to design specifications and quantity of required materials with recognition of LEED, FSC and “green” issues when applicable
  • Analyze technical implications of architect’s design concept, calculating weights, volumes, and stress factors keeping in mind AWI standards
  • Self-starter and ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects at the same time
  • Provide excellent customer service and align all practices with organization objectives
  • Other duties and responsibilities as needed and directed

Qualifications and Required Skills:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in custom architectural casework/millwork industry
  • Working knowledge of custom millwork fabrication
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to read blueprints, interior design, and architectural drawings
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, and as part of a team
  • Technical experience in architectural drafting
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume; ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, plane and solid geometry
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of AutoCAD software; Microsoft Office software; Design software; Internet; Manufacturing software
  • Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to work well under pressure, deadlines, and rapidly changing priorities
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn and contribute
